This Cookie Policy explains how Crumple Ltd (previously known as Crumple Receipts Ltd) ("we," "our," "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on the Crumple website ("the Website"), which includes the Crumple Business Dashboard.
It applies to everyone who visits the Website, whether you are a Crumple app user, a business using the Dashboard, or just passing through. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and Business Privacy Policy, which explain more about how we handle personal data generally.
1. What These Technologies Are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. We also use two other forms of browser storage that work in a similar way:
- Local storage: Kept by your browser until it is cleared, and used to keep you signed in.
- Session storage: Cleared as soon as you close the tab, and used for short-lived interface state.
Where this policy says "cookies", it means all three unless stated otherwise.
2. How We Ask for Your Consent
Strictly necessary cookies are set without asking, because the Website cannot work without them. This is permitted by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
Everything else — currently just our analytical cookies — is off until you turn it on. When you first visit, we show you a cookie banner with the analytical option switched off. Nothing analytical is set unless you choose "Accept all", or switch the option on yourself and save. Accepting and rejecting are each a single click: "Accept all" and "Reject non-essential" sit alongside each other, and neither is hidden behind the other.
You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and takes effect immediately.
We do not show the banner on this page, or on our terms and privacy pages, so that you can read them before making a choice.
3. Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly necessary (always active)
These are required to provide the Website and cannot be switched off.
- analyticalCookiesConsent — cookie, set by Crumple, kept for 1 year. Records the cookie choice you made, so that we do not ask again on every page and so that your choice is honoured.
- crumple_has_session — cookie, set by Crumple, kept for 30 days. Records only whether you are signed in, so that a page can be rendered correctly the moment it loads rather than flickering between signed-out and signed-in. It contains no personal data and grants no access on its own.
- Firebase Authentication storage — local storage, set by Google Firebase, kept until you sign out or clear your browser. Holds your sign-in session so you are not asked for your password on every page.
- Interface state — session storage, set by Crumple, cleared when you close the tab. Remembers short-lived things such as how long is left before you can resend a verification email, or a confirmation message that should survive a page refresh.
- _GRECAPTCHA — cookie, set by Google, typically kept for around 6 months. Used by Google reCAPTCHA to tell real people from automated abuse. We load reCAPTCHA only at the moment you submit our contact form or a demo request, so it is not set simply by browsing the Website.
3.2 Analytical (only with your consent)
These help us understand how the Website is used so we can improve it. They are set only if you turn analytical cookies on.
- _ga and _ga_<identifier> — cookies, set by Google Analytics through Google Firebase, typically kept for up to 2 years. Used to tell one visitor from another and to measure how pages and features are used.
We use Google Consent Mode. Until you consent, Google is instructed not to use analytics storage, so these cookies are not written. If you later withdraw consent, that instruction is reapplied and the cookies stop being used.
4. Third Parties
Some of the above are set by third parties acting on our behalf. Their own policies explain what they do with the data:
- Google (Firebase, Google Analytics and reCAPTCHA) — authentication, analytics, and protection against automated abuse.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell your data or share it with advertising networks.
5. Managing Cookies in Your Browser
As well as our cookie banner, you can control cookies through your browser settings, including deleting cookies already stored and blocking new ones. Browsers differ, so please refer to your browser's help pages.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the Website working. In particular, you will not be able to stay signed in, and clearing the consent cookie will cause the banner to appear again.
6. The Crumple App
This policy covers the Website. The Crumple mobile app does not use browser cookies, though it does store data on your device in order to work, and it reports usage analytics in the same way. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect through the app.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to the technologies we use or to the law. Where a change means we would set a new category of cookie, we will ask for your consent again. Please review this page from time to time.
