These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access and use of the Crumple application ("the App") and the Crumple website ("the Website"). By using our App or Website, you agree to comply with these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App or the Website.
These Terms apply to consumers using the Crumple app to receive and manage digital receipts. If you are a business using the Crumple Business Dashboard, please refer to the Business Terms and Conditions instead.
1. Introduction
Crumple Ltd (previously known as Crumple Receipts Ltd) ("we," "our," "us") provides a platform for users to securely receive, store, and manage digital receipts shared by partnered shops. These Terms outline your rights and responsibilities when using our services.
Crumple Ltd (previously known as Crumple Receipts Ltd) is a registered business in the United Kingdom. Company number 16031291.
2. User Accounts
To use the App, you must create an account and provide accurate and complete information, including:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Year of Birth
- Gender
- Postcode
- Country
Your Year of Birth is collected primarily to support ongoing age verification, helping ensure that you are only presented with age-appropriate content, promotions, and campaigns delivered through our platform by participating businesses, including categories that may be subject to age restrictions.
Your Year of Birth, Gender and Postcode are also used to help our partnered shops better understand their customer demographics, which may be visualised through charts and maps on the Crumple Business Dashboard.
We use the email address on your account to send you messages about your account and your receipts, and to tell you about significant changes to these Terms. Keeping that address up to date is your responsibility.
3. Privacy and Data Collection
We collect and process personal data, including the information provided during account creation.
Your data may be shared with partnered shops to enhance the receipt experience and analytics.
Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we process and protect your data.
To improve the functionality and user experience of the Crumple app, we may capture and process analytical data such as user interactions, app and device usage patterns, IP address and location data and receipt-related activities. This data may include non-identifiable information like the frequency of app usage, types of receipts accessed, and engagement metrics. The collected data is analysed to optimise app performance, personalise features, and provide insights to partnered shops for improving their services. All data is processed securely and in compliance with applicable data protection laws to ensure user privacy is safeguarded.
We can access data at anytime to help in diagnosing bugs and improving our services and for investigation and prevention of fraudulent activity.
Data is processed and stored in Google Firebase and is subject to the terms, conditions and privacy policies outlined on their website which can be viewed below:
Google Firebase TermsGoogle Privacy Policy4. User Responsibilities
You confirm:
- You are over the age of 13.
You agree to:
- Use the App only for lawful purposes.
- Provide accurate information and refrain from creating multiple accounts.
- Keep your account credentials confidential, and tell us promptly if you believe someone else has accessed your account.
- Not attempt to misuse, interfere with, or reverse-engineer the App or the Website.
Prohibited activities include:
- Fraudulent use of the App or the Website.
- Claiming, or attempting to claim, a receipt that does not relate to a transaction you made.
- Uploading harmful or malicious content.
- Violating third-party rights or applicable laws.
5. Third-Party Partners
Partnered shops will provide digital receipts through the App.
We are not responsible for the accuracy or content of receipts provided by third-party partners.
Any disputes regarding purchases or receipts must be resolved directly with the respective shop.
Analytical data will be processed and shared via analytics platforms such as Google Analytics.
6. Your Receipts
A receipt in your Crumple wallet is your record of a transaction with the shop that issued it.
Receipts issued to you through the Crumple receipt service are retained for a minimum of six years from the date of issue. That is how long we keep them; it is separate from how far back your account lets you browse, which is set out below.
A free Crumple account gives you the most recent two years of receipts in your wallet. We may limit a free account to that window, and where we do, older receipts are not deleted — they continue to be held for the retention period above. We intend to offer a paid subscription that opens up your full history, and we will tell you before any such limit begins to apply to receipts you can see today.
Whether or not you subscribe, you can ask us at any time for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, including your receipts. We provide that free of charge; it is a right you have under data protection law and it is not something a subscription can affect. Our Privacy Policy explains how to ask.
Receipts older than two years may also be moved to archival storage. Individual receipts remain available to you, but archived receipts may be excluded from summaries, totals and bulk exports, and bulk retrieval of archived data may take up to 30 days.
Receipts show a shop's current name. Where a shop has changed its name since a receipt was issued, that receipt also shows the name it was issued under, so that you can still tell who supplied the goods or services at the time. Renaming does not change the name on receipts already issued.
If a shop closes its Crumple account, receipts it has already issued to you remain available to you, and the retention commitment above continues to apply to them. Closing an account stops new receipts being issued; it does not withdraw receipts already given.
Receipts reach your wallet through each shop's own till and checkout systems. We cannot guarantee that every purchase you make at a partnered shop will produce a Crumple receipt, and the App is not a replacement for the proof of purchase the shop gives you at the time. Where a receipt matters to you — for a return, a warranty claim, or your own records — we recommend keeping the shop's own receipt as well, and saving a copy of anything you may need beyond two years. If a receipt does not arrive, please ask the shop, as we cannot issue one on their behalf.
Closing your own account works differently: your receipts are unlinked from you rather than deleted, and you will no longer be able to access them. Please see section 9 and our Privacy Policy for details.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, trademarks, and technology within the App and the Website are owned by Crumple Ltd (previously known as Crumple Receipts Ltd) or licensed to us or used with permission of their respective owners.
You may not reproduce, copy, distribute, or modify the App or the Website without our express permission.
8. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. Significant changes will be communicated through the App, the Website or via email. Continued use after such updates constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms. You may also request for your account to be closed at any time in the App. Please view our Deletion Request page for more information.
Where we suspend or terminate your account, we will tell you why, and give you notice beforehand where it is reasonably practicable to do so — except where immediate suspension is necessary to protect the security of our systems or other users. If you believe we have made a mistake, you can contact us and ask us to review the decision.
Your Crumple account is a single account across the App and the Crumple Dashboard, which businesses use to manage their stores and issue receipts. If you also use your account to sign in to the Dashboard, closing it ends that access too. Where you are a member of a business's team, closing your account removes you from that team; nothing belonging to the business is deleted, and you would need to be invited again to regain access. Signing in to the Dashboard counts as signing in to your account, and so cancels a deletion request within the 7 day grace period in the same way that signing in to the App does.
We are not able to close your account while it is the owner of a business on the Dashboard, as doing so would leave that business without an owner. Ownership cannot be reassigned from the Dashboard, so please contact us and we will transfer ownership to another member of your team or close the business account alongside yours before your request can proceed. This is set out in section 13 of the Business Terms and Conditions.
10. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Subject to the above, we are not liable for:
- Loss or damage that was not foreseeable. Loss or damage is foreseeable if either it is obvious that it will happen, or if at the time you accepted these Terms both you and we knew it might happen.
- Errors or omissions in receipts provided by third-party shops.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, and you and we both agree that the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising under or in connection with them.
If you live in Scotland you may also bring proceedings in the Scottish courts, and if you live in Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in the Northern Irish courts. Nothing in this section removes any protection available to you under the mandatory laws of the country in which you live.
12. Contact Us
